Custom Homes | Western NC

Built for the land, the lifestyle, and the legacy you envision.

Bespoke residences in the Western North Carolina mountains, designed and built around how you actually live.

The Promise

Not a kit. Not a template. Your home.

A Kaizen Homes custom home is a multi-year collaboration between you, your land, your architect, and a builder whose family has been building on these mountains for three generations. Every decision, from how the great room catches morning light to where the mudroom meets the driveway, is yours to make, with our experience behind it.

We are the builder that finishes what we said we would finish, when we said we would finish it, and the one you would still want to call ten years later.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Custom Home Building Questions

Energy performance is a top priority in our custom builds. We design each home with a whole-systems approach, incorporating high-performance insulation (such as spray foam), fresh air ventilation systems, energy-efficient windows, and ENERGY STAR-rated appliances. We also factor in sun orientation, natural ventilation, and passive solar heating opportunities during site planning. Many of our clients request aging-in-place features and sustainable finishes, which we’re happy to include. We’re NAHB Certified Green Professionals and bring that mindset to every project. See what we evaluated at the 2026 International Builders Show.
Timelines depend on the site and scope. Most full custom homes take at least a year to complete, with additional time needed for thoughtful design and planning.
Yes, we welcome clients who already have plans, though we often recommend starting with our team to ensure the design and build process stay aligned. If you already have an architect, we are happy to collaborate.
Custom homes typically range from $1M to $3M+, depending on the level of design and site complexity. Get instant access to our Cost Guide to see more pricing details.
Yes. Many of our clients are planning their forever homes, and we include aging-in-place features, energy-efficient systems, and passive design principles. For a deeper look at how we approach this, read our guide on designing a home for aging in place in Asheville.

Jonathan did a great job constructing our home. To be honest, there were some challenges; building a house in the middle of a pandemic, with changing labor and material costs is not an easy job! However, Jonathan always had our best interests at heart, and we are very happy with our new home.

Jonathan with Kaizen Homes saved our family from a terrible situation with a fraudulent contractor and was willing to jump in on our project after the designing stage. His attention to detail and knowledge of building science gave us confidence that we could trust him to build our home. We gave him a very strict budget and he set clear expectations on what was achievable and delivered on his word. He far exceeded our expectations in building our family's home in Black Mountain. Our family would recommend Kaizen Homes 100%.

We moved into our home, Hemlock Ridge, that Kaizen Homes built in 2016. The whole process from beginning to move in was well planned, professional, and very collaborative between the builder, Jonathan Landry, and ourselves. He was careful with our budget and if issues or concerns came up they were communicated immediately. Jonathan and his team did a quality job in every aspect of our home. I would highly recommend Jonathan as a home builder!

Suzanne S.Custom home client, Hemlock Ridge

Great customer service, honesty, and a strong work ethic are traits we look for when hiring a person to build our dream home. I've had the privilege of working with Jonathan Landry of Kaizen Homes. He possesses all of the above mentioned qualities, and much more. I highly recommend Jonathan Landry for any construction project you may have in mind. You'll be happy you hired him!

Vicki D.Custom home client

Jonathan has helped manage several home improvement projects for my wife and I. This work included deck improvements, large glass patio door installations, a new front door, exterior cable rails and more. His crew and subcontractors have been very professional, clean, timely and competitively priced. Their communication style is straight forward and direct.
